Clyde Tombaugh at the Lowell Observatory in Arizona.

He probably didn’t realize how important the month between January 21 and February 18, 1930 would be. Clyde Tombaugh described the first night within the Lowell Observatory as the “worst seeing in my life before or since,” when he made a photographic exposure of Planet X.  He made exposures two more nights, January 23rd and 29th, which would be his corroborating images for his discovery to be made on February 18, 1930.  Planet X (soon to be named Pluto) was real!
