The Kansas Union – 86 Years and Counting

April 30th marks the 86th anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone for the Kansas Memorial Union at 1301 Jayhawk Boulevard in Lawrence, KS.

Originally part of the Million Dollar Drive of the early 1920s, the construction of the Kansas Union was delayed when most of the funds collected were used to build Memorial Stadium. The upcoming depression also served to delay the construction of the Union. The Kansas Union was not considered complete until 1938, a full twelve years after the cornerstone was placed by Chancellor Lindley.
