Hall of Fame Track Coach Bob Timmons Dies

Bob-Timmons (1) Former Kansas track & field and cross country coach Bob Timmons passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2015. He was 91.

During his KU career Timmons led the Jayhawks to four NCAA titles and 31 conference championships. He was also incducted into the National Track & Field Hall of Fame, Kansas Athletics Hall of Fame, the Kansas Relays Hall of Fame, the Drake Relays Hall of Fame, the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, the Kansas High School Activities Association Hall of Fame and the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches of America (USTFCCCA) Hall of Fame.

Timmons became the Jayhawks’ head coach in 1966 and retired in 1988, but never stopped supporting KU. Timmons made a gift of his Rim Rock Farm in 1994, the home to Kansas Cross Country which has been the site for many top cross country meets.

Timmons is survived by his wife, Pat; children, Susan (Tammie), Rebecca, Priscilla and Dan, as well as two grandchildren.
